A Presbyterian Congregation
Serving with Energy, Intelligence,
Imagination and Love
The word “Presbyterian”, derived from the Biblical Greek word “presbuteros” means “led by elders.” Presbyterians recognize and ordain two types of elders, “teaching elders” who are clergy serving as pastors, otherwise known as Ministers of Word and Sacrament. “Ruling elders” who are non-clergy called to be servant leaders in the church.
Ruling elders, are voting members of a “Session”, which is our governing board. Our teaching elder is elected by our congregation, approved by our regional Presbytery, called as our pastor, and serves as our Co-Head of Staff and Moderator of our Session. Our ruling elders lead our four ministry teams that oversee and enhance the life of the church at First Pres. Anyone is welcome to join a ministry team to serve the congregation and the community, as we seek to fulfill our purpose as the people of God, loving our neighbor and spreading the Gospel.
Our Deacons are our expression of the hands and feet of Jesus. They care for the congregation by making phone calls, home and hospital visits and hosting events for weddings, baptisms and memorial services. They regularly connect with outreach ministries to provide aid and encouragement.
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Mark 10:45

Our Pastor
Rev. Mickey Fenn began her call to serve as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in October 2024. Mickey was no stranger to First Pres having volunteered in various capacities for the past 10 years, including serving as the Pastor of Administration from 2020 to 2022. Mickey’s love for the people of First Pres knows no bounds and she is “honored and blessed beyond measure” to be called as our Pastor. Mickey is the founding pastor of The Way Station, a worship community of the Santa Barbara Presbytery that has been meeting on Sunday afternoons for the last 7 years. She has also served as a Hospice Chaplain and her heart is for reaching out to anyone and everyone with the love of Christ to build bridges and create community.
Mickey grew up in Southern California (Orange County), moved to Colorado for 25 years, and returned to California following God’s call into ministry in 2015, after 30 years in the healthcare and business field. She went to Dubuque Theological Seminary for Lay Pastor training and received her Masters of Divinity from New Theological Seminary of the West in 2019. She loves sports, played competitive softball and golf, is an ardent supporter of USC Football and believes laughter is a wonderful gift that she tries to pass on as much as possible! Her greatest joy is to serve the Lord whenever and wherever needed!
Our Leadership Team and Staff
Our Elders of Session and our Staff members, along with our Pastor, work together in their calling to serve the Lord with energy, intelligence, imagination and love in their areas of expertise. They have a passion for doing the Lord’s work and giving all glory to God. We praise God from whom all blessings flow!
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful as stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
